Project | Create a Landscaped Lake from a waterlogged field

  • Client

    Private

  • Location

    Brabourne, Kent

  • Duration

3 Weeks & Further Subsequent Works

  • Outcome

Design and create a lake feature plus some natural streams and watercourses with an overflow to a river passing through the site.

  • The Challenge

Worked with the client to agree a design and layout for the lakes, streams and water courses plus the scope for the landscaping around the lake.

The original site was a waterlogged or boggy field which could not be walked or driven on and could not even be harvested.

The scope of the project extended considerably as the project progressed to incorporate natural streams and water courses feeding the lake.

  • The Works

We excavated this primarily clay site, removed vegetation and moved vegetative soils to the side, then filled and graded the site with dense clay to create the flowing shape of the lake including creating the island, streams and water courses. Finally we created an overflow into the river running through the site.

Later we replaced the vegetative soils.

For the overflow feature we imported granite in order to create a series of weirs to manage flows and water levels. Aside from the granite no material were imported or exported from the site a s result of the way the work was done.
